About Us

Meet Mia | Owner

My career started in 1999 in the Stills industry working primarily with Photo library clients and it eventually lead me to producing for a very talented German photographer, Klaus Tiedge, for about two years.

In 2006 my (now) husband, kicked started MCX but became way too busy managing film sets and offered to sell the business to me (at a competitive price of course 🙂 ) in 2009.  To say I was tossed in the deep end is an understatement. We started with 300 extras and I had little to no experience in the film industry.

I clearly remember my first client call from Andrew Shand who was shooting The Philanthropist at the time and he didn’t care who was on the other end of the call, he just needed people, and fast! I remember frantically staring at a database that had grown to 1000 extras and decided the best place to start was with what I know, and that’s building relationships. That’s one thing that hasn’t changed. People and relationships have been at the core of MCX to this day

What do you enjoy most about working with people?

Helping and educating people, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of this work. It’s wonderful to see people grow and develop themselves especially in our country where employment opportunities are so few.

Tell us something about yourself that people don’t know.

I can roller skate, sing and paint a perfect French manicure.

Meet Jacqui | Head Booker

My journey with MCX started in 2009 when I found an advert in the newspaper looking for background extras for a 1995 movie, Invictus, at the Ellis Park stadium.

I remember that day well because I was there when the Boeing 747 flew over which was just amazing, and I thought to myself ‘wow, I need to contact this agency.’

Whilst waiting to be contacted for Invictus, I was called for another movie, Kongo, a military-type film, and that was where I met Mia.

There were many extras on set that day, and the casting coordinator was struggling to get everyone wrangled up, naturally, I jumped in to help. About two weeks later I received a call from Mia asking if I could assist at MCX for a week or so.

As the story goes, a week turned into a month, a month turned into ten years, and we are still rocking! I’m blessed to be working for Mia and a fantastic agency. I hope to be part of MCX for another ten years.

Tell us something about yourself that people don’t know.

I love cooking, gardening and a good box (yes, box!) of red wine and that’s me in a nutshell.
